At the beginning of the meeting, the guests were shown a film about the history and present of NURE. A special emphasis was placed on current educational programs and the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The organizers once again highlighted NURE’s status as one of the leading higher education institutions in Ukraine.

Prospective applicants received comprehensive and detailed information regarding the conditions of the 2026 admission campaign. The open-dialogue format allowed applicants and their parents to ask their questions directly to the administration — the Rector and Faculty Deans personally provided thorough answers to all inquiries.

The Department of Applied Mathematics (AM) actively engaged with the future students. Our unit was represented by Senior Lecturers Ravil Yanbekov and Vladyslav Parkhomenko, with comprehensive support and assistance from the Head of the Department, Maxim Viktorovych Sidorov.

During their communication with the youth, the representatives of the AM Department:

• used real-world examples to explain the relevance and prospects of applying mathematical apparatus in a wide variety of modern fields — from programming to system analysis;
• presented the “NMT for 200” project, which helps schoolchildren prepare well for the testing and increase their chances of admission;
• noted that the applicants showed great interest in the department’s specialties, actively asked questions, and joined special chats to receive additional information and further consultations.

By implementing the principles of Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education, the university is forming an open and barrier-free educational space. This practical event served as a wonderful opportunity to support the students, help them adapt to difficult learning conditions, and demonstrate that applied science can be fascinating. This is an important step in overcoming learning losses and motivating future applicants to pursue higher education.

On the same day, Senior Lecturer Ravil Yanbekov and Assistant Andrii Koshkin visited the students of School No. 124, whose classes are held in a specially equipped underground school in the Saltivskyi district. They conducted a mathematical master class, “Battle of the Fishermen,” for the schoolchildren. The format of the interactive game proved to be highly successful and aroused genuine interest, with most of the children eagerly engaging in the process as both active participants and attentive listeners.

These events contributed to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education. They provided free access to high-quality mathematical training, specifically for schoolchildren from various social and educational backgrounds, thereby creating an inclusive space for learning, self-realization, and development. This not only helped improve the participants’ academic results and compensate for learning losses but also motivated them to pursue higher education in the future.

Outstanding Awards and Recognition

Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics — the prestigious 2025 prize was awarded to the eminent mathematician Dennis Gaitsgory for his fundamental contributions to the Geometric Langlands Program, in particular for proving the Geometric Langlands Conjecture in characteristic zero.

New Horizons in Mathematics Prize — research in the field of conformal probability was recognized with the prize for young mathematicians, awarded to Ewain Gwynne of the University of Chicago.

Professor John Pardon also became a co-recipient of the New Horizons in Mathematics Prize for his significant results in geometry and topology.

Major Mathematical Progress

Substantial progress in solving a classical mathematical problem — in 2025, an important step was made toward resolving Hilbert’s Sixth Problem, which aims to provide a rigorous mathematical foundation for physical theories.

Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence

AI as a tool for mathematical thinking — a number of studies in 2025 demonstrated how artificial intelligence is increasingly contributing to solving complex mathematical problems and education: experimental AI systems are already approaching the gold medal standard at the International Mathematical Olympiad or achieving high scores in prestigious mathematical competitions, indicating a transformation in approaches to mathematical thinking and education.

Other Notable Results

Collective scientific achievements — large-scale collaborative projects by mathematicians worldwide, such as comprehensive collective proofs in the Langlands theory or new constructions in combinatorics and knot theory, continue to influence fundamental mathematics and its applications.

These events and achievements demonstrate that in 2025 mathematics remains one of the most dynamic and productive sciences, shaping our understanding of complex systems, algorithms, and the structure of the universe.
